MMJ Radio City Music Hall
the my morning jacket radio city music hall show was great. they played through their newer tracks towards the begining - their new album is 50/50 for me... it's hard to get unless you know where they are coming from. then they got into what they do best - totally kicking ass.
In case you are in a record store any time soon - my favorite albums of theirs are 1) It Still Moves 2) Okonokos (live double album) 3) "Z" and 4) Acoustic Citsuoca. Not necessarily in that order.
someone (i think paste mag) wrote that attempts of listening to them are futile unless you've seen them live. it's a fair assessment - i think they are the best live american band, up there with the white stripes and wilco. The flaming lips are probably up there, too - but i've never seen them. am i missing anyone? the black keys, maybe... but they are not on the same level.
if you haven't been to radio city music hall - go. it sounds great in there... it felt as open as an outdoor show. even mr. jim james himself commented on the hall's prestige, and elaborated on how he "channeled the spirits" backstage. he had something in him, and it was evident as he trekked up and down the side balconies 30 feet away from me (i was in the 2nd mez) jamming wirelessly with the band. oh, to be a rock star.
